Profession of Vows
Our year culminated on September 1st when the three of us, Brs. Joseph Mary, Peter Junipero and Corwin, took our first vows. First Vows are significant insofar as they declare an official entry into the Dominican Order. After a year of discernment in the novitiate, where we examined whether our original sense of a call was genuine, spending much time laying the foundations for a deep spiritual life and developing skills needed to live the common life, we openly affirm that we do indeed believe the Lord is calling us to the Dominican Order. That being said, first vows are still the first in a series of vows we take on our way to ordination. We will reaffirm these vows until our Solemn Vows, five years down the road, where we officially pledge ourselves for life to the order; after that, there is the Diaconate Ordination; finally, ordination to the priesthood.
