Novitiate Videos
The liturgy for our first vows Mass was at St. Dominic’s grand old gothic church in San Francisco. This slide-show video shows the chronological unravelling of the ceremony: from the procession and first readings; to the profession rite, where we prostrate ourselves before the sanctuary as the Veni Creator Spiritus is sung and then take vows in the hands of the provincial, then later have our scapulars blessed as a sign of the maternal protection of Mary; to the proclamation of the gospel and homily; to the offertory and Eucharistic liturgy; to the welcoming of the newly professed by the whole Dominican community in the center aisle; to a few shots of the celebration following. It was quite a powerful ceremony from an experiential aspect, perhaps appropriate to the grace which will be needed to faithfully live out our vows, grace which has sustained us to this point and of which we hope to be instruments of in the future.
